Our curriculum

At Bringing up Baby, our aim is to help every child achieve their full potential.

Each of the nurseries has a carefully planned and implemented curriculum with a wide range of stimulating activities and it includes plenty of time for free expression and fun.

We encourage children to learn for themselves and, building on what they already know, we tailor our activities to suit each child’s individual development and learning needs.

We also recognise that you as parents are the children’s first teacher and that the success of our curriculum is dependent on a close relationship between us, as nursery providers, and you as parents. We ensure that parents are kept well informed at all times and you are also invited to contribute to your child’s learning.

We ensure that our curriculum encourages and nurtures knowledge of the world and all the different cultures and religions.

Our staff are empowered to contribute to the planning and development of all nursery activities and to reflect the different cultures they represent.

Our children are given a voice so they are encouraged to plan their own nursery environment and activities.

All of our nurseries implement the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a play-based framework that acknowledges that very child is unique and that they learn and develop at different rates and in different ways.

Every parent knows that a child’s experiences in their first few years are crucial which is why the Government made the EYFS statutory in September 2008. It ensures that all under fives in childcare will benefit from a safe, secure and happy environment where they can play and develop.

At the heart of the EYFS is the principle that young children need to play in order to have fun, make friends and to begin to learn and understand about the world around them.

Ensuring the welfare and safety of children is a fundamental part of the EYFS. It also emphasises the importance of working closely with parents and brings out the importance of each child being able to develop at their own pace.

The EYFS pulls together 3 existing sets of standards:

  • - Birth to three matters
  • - Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage
  • - National Standards for Daycare and Childminding

The EYFS is based on 4 principal themes:

  • - A Unique child
  • - Positive Relationships
  • - Enabling Environments
  • - Learning and Development

It covers 2 key areas:

The welfare section covers the safety and standard of the environment that children are in and the level of care they get whilst they are there.

The section focused on development outlines some of the milestones that most children will have reached by the age of five. This section covers 6 Early Learning Goals:

  • - Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • - Communication, Language and Literacy
  • - Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • - Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • - Physical Development
  • - Creative Development

If any of our parents wish to obtain further information on the EYFS they should speak with their Nursery Manager. A copy of ‘Early Years Foundation Stage – Everything you need to know’ is also available.
