Children’s Allergies
Posted by Bringing up Baby under: health .
At Bringing up Baby, Health and Safety within our nurseries is always of utmost importance and as part of this we continually review our policies and procedures and share and implement good practice. Some of our staff have undertaken a one day Children’s Allergies course. All our nursery cooks and some of our staff also undertake a Basic Food Hygiene course.
As a result of this training we have put into place these additional procedures for children with allergies:
- children’s treatment plans completed by parents on joining the nursery and reviewed regularly
- the use of separate coloured bottles, eating utensils etc
- compulsory training for all staff on first aid and how to deal with allergies
- training on the use of epipens where necessary
In addition we also undertake the following:
- the baking of children’s birthday cakes at the nursery to avoid the use of any ingredients that may cause allergies e.g. nuts
- continual discussions on Health and safety at monthly staff and management meetings
- increased and continual communication with parents regarding their child’s health, updating emergency contact details, treatment plans etc.
- Health and Safety checklists for all our new staff, students and agency staff during their induction period
